Snow Flower and the Secret Fan

Snow Flower and the Secret Fan is a fascinating story set in the 19th century in China about the deep friendship of Lily and Snow Flower. This book is, yes, about Chinese culture and traditions, and all the things that they went through when they were younger, narrated by Lily herself. Most of all, this book is about the two of them, their friendship, and their profound love for each other.

All I have to say is that if you have read this and did not like it, well, I don’t know what’s wrong with you.

Just kidding, of course.=)

Personally, I LOVED this book so much. It is so nice to read about a different culture than we are used to, but I especially loved Lily and Snow Flower. The author did such a great job focusing on these two characters despite the fact that she focused on many other fascinating things as well. This book not only talks about a culture so different from what we are used to, but goes in depth with a female friendship as close as a bound sisterhood.

Celebratory, overwhelming, joyful, and heartbreaking all at the same time–this has it all. Definitely, a stunning book rich with history, well-loved characters, and just the perfect poetic prose written by Lisa See.
