Most Influential Books In My Life

Wednesday, March 26, 2014

I love a lot of books. However, I've learned that the favorites list and the most influential list are two completely different things. Today, I'll list the books that have been influential in my life in some way. I will try my best to say NOTHING as to why they are important. I challenge you to do the same.

  • The Harry Potter series
  • The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath
  • 100 Love Sonnets by Pablo Neruda
  • Ishmael by Daniel Quinn
  • The Book Thief by Markus Zusak
  • Slaughterhouse Five by Kurt Vonnegut
  • The Lover's Dictionary by David Levithan
  • The Stranger by Albert Camus
  • The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupery
List yours down below or create a separate post! I would love to know your list. You can state your reasons, but I challenge you to not say anything or much at all.

So far, here are other awesome bloggers that did the challenge:
Adam at Roof Beam Reader
Melissa at Avid Reader's Musings
Sarah at The Everyday Reader
Chris at Wild Moo Books
Brona at Brona's Books

  1. Ah yes, this would take some thought as I usually think of books in terms of favourites, but that's not necessarily the same as most influential. On a side note, I FINALLY read The Book Thief not too long ago and gahhh SO GOOD.

  4. I fell in love with Ishmael...oh god, probably a decade ago now. That's one of the books that really got me back into reading and appreciating literature. You have some other greats on here as well, and a few I haven't yet read. Nice choices!

  6. The Bell Jar is on my reading list for this year--I am so interested to see how I feel about it. I'm also hoping to read The Book Thief this year. I'll have to think about what's influenced me most.

    1. I hope you appreciate the Bell Jar. Everyone takes it differently, but for me, it meant a lot! Also, The Book Thief is highly recommended!

  8. I feel the pain. Being a chronic rambler, it would be difficult for me to put together such an important list and know I can't comment on the books :) Then again, what are challenges for - I might just do that :) I think The Little Prince is a very special book, quite unlike anything else I've ever read.

  9. What a great idea! I agree with Brona, it's hard to work out the difference between just plain favourite and most influential. Turns out that for me those are very different lists! Here's mine http://ted-reader.blogspot.co.uk/2014/04/most-influential-books-in-my-life.html

  10. Thanks for the nudge to think about favorite and influential books as different categories. I've always conflated the two concepts when it came to books, but thinking about them separately has been rather inspiring. Here's my list: http://wildmoobooks.blogspot.com/2014/04/10-most-influential-books.html

  12. Usually I just think about these kind of questions, but I loved this one so much that I posted my list: http://legicomp.blogspot.com.es/2014/04/my-most-influential-books.html
And it WAS a challenge not to explain!
